Louis Alvarez

Brother Louis Alvarez was born in 1967 in NYC and raised in Astoria Queens.  He graduated from Long Island City H.S. in 1985 and attended SUNY Farmingdale for two years majoring in business administration.  Brother Alvarez was initiated into Local Union No.3 in 1989.

Since receiving his A card in 1995, Lou has worked in the capacity of field electrician, sub foreman and foreman at various shops within Local 3.  In 2005 he became a NYC Licensed Master Electrician and is currently employed by Allan Briteway Electric as a Project Manager and Estimator.

Brother Alvarez has been an active member of Local union number 3 since 1999.  He is a member of the Wage and Policy Committee of Local 3, the Bronx Acorn Club, the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus and the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society.   Lou served as the President of the Jose Lopez Memorial Scholarship from 2002 to 2011.  As a member of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society he served as a Sergeant at Arms, Treasurer and 2nd Vice President.  Brother Alvarez has served in the MIJ Boot camp, proctored various Local 3 exams and is currently a mentor in Local 3’s newly developed Mentorship Program.  Lou participated in the development of the Electrical Code Class where he has been an active instructor since its inception in 2009.  This class helps educate members of the electrical industry with the ever changing Electrical Code of NYC.  On October 11th, 2011, Louis Alvarez was elected by the Executive Board of Local 3 to complete the unexpired term of James Bua as a member of the Examining Board.  The Examining Board administers exams for all upgrades in the “A”, “ M” and Telephone Divisions of Local Union 3.
