Thanksgiving Day at St. Joan of Arc Church
On Thanksgiving Day morning, of every year since 1995, over 50 members, officers and family members of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society and the Bronx Acorn Electrical Club volunteer to help set-up, prepare and serve a Thanksgiving Day meal to the needy men, women and children from the community surrounding St. Joan of Arc Church in the Bronx. The first few years, there were about 150 people who showed up that morning for food. This event has grown to well over 300 individuals receiving aid. Both clubs donate 20 turkeys along with canned goods, juices and soda. We also started a clothing and canned food drive for that morning. The members of both clubs have donated used clothing and spend several hours sorting and arranging the items. These contributions are greatly appreciated by all who benefit that day. When the last meal is served volunteers reflects on how fortunate they are and appreciate the many blessing that are at times taken for granted.
