Andrew A. Tapia

Andrew A. Tapia was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to parents who had immigrated four years earlier from communist Cuba. He and his younger sister grew up in Astoria, Queens. Andrew graduated from Long Island City High School in 1983 and went on to attend LaGuardia Community College. In 1986, received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting.

In 1987 Andrew was initiated into Local Union #3, I.B.E.W. Apprentice program. Upon entering the Apprenticeship program, Andrew became active with the Apprentice Advisory Committee where he chaired various committees and served as the Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President. Brother Tapia  served twice on the Apprentice Negotiating Committee. He received his “A” Journeyman’s card in 1994.  He also earned an Associate’s Degree in Labor Studies from the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School for Labor Studies. .As a journeyman he worked in the field as a Sub-Foreman and Foreman.

Andrew became a member of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society in 1987, and has served on many committees and presently serves as a Board of Director. He is a member of the Bronx Acorn Electrical Club, Colony Club, and The Sportsman’s Club.

Andrew is a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge #430. He has always played an active role in Local #3’s political campaign efforts to elect labor friendly candidates to Local, State and National Office. He has played an active role in his local politics, specifically in his support of the re-election of State Senator Tony Avella.

Andrew resides in Bayside, N.Y. with his wife Delisa. They are proud parents of Delisa, Victoria, Amalia, and Alexander.
