Thanksgiving Day at St. Joan of Arc Church

On Thanksgiving Day morning, of every year since 1995, over 50 members, officers and family members of The Santiago Iglesias Educational Society and The Bronx Acorn Electrical Club volunteer to help set-up, prepare and serve a Thanksgiving Day meal to the needy men, women and children from the community surrounding St. Joan of Arc Church in the Bronx. The first few years, there were about 150 people who showed up that morning for food. This past year there were well over 300. Both clubs donate 20 turkeys along with canned goods, juices and soda. About 13 years ago we also started a clothing and canned food drive for that morning. The members of both clubs have donated tons of clean, used clothing and spend several hours that morning sorting and arranging all the cloths. All this is greatly appreciated by everyone who shows up that day. When the last meal is s served everyone reflects on how fortunate we are and to appreciate what so many of us take for granted.
