Antonio Abreu

Antonio Abreu born and raised in Corona, Queens and is the oldest of five children. His parents, Ramon and Francia, both from The Dominican Republic immigrated to the US in the late 50’s. Antonio graduated from Flushing High School in 1983 and afterwards attended Queensboro Community College. In October of 1984 he was initiated into Local Union #3, where he worked as an electrician apprentice in the Apprentice Program and served as class representative in the apprentice school.

In July of 1989, he received his “A” Journeyman’s Card. He also attended Empire State College were he received his Associates Degree in Labor Studies. He completed the Rigging Class, Citizenship Responsibility Class, Asbestos Restricted Handler Course, 12-Night Transit Safety Course, High Voltage Safety Class, Confined Space Class, Lock-out tag-out class, IBEW Shop Steward Training class and the 15 hour OSHA Safety Course.

Antonio has held different position while working in Local #3. He has been a sub-Forman, Forman and shop steward. He was the Shop Steward at the New Yankee Stadium where there were 23 Local #3 Contractors and over 450, Local #3 members working. Antonio also serves on Local #3’s Wage and Policy Committee and Local #3’s Death Benefit Society. Antonio was appointed to serve on the ’07 Negotiating Committee where he served as Recording Secretary.

Antonio has been a proud member of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society since 1989. He has served as Committeeman, Good and Welfare Officer, Board of Director, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President, President and is currently a Trustee and has served on many of the committees and activities of the club. He has co-chaired and been the Chairman for several of the Society’s Dinner Dances and serves as a mentor to the apprentices in the S.I.E.S. He has been a member of the The Bronx Acorn Electrical Club for close to 20 years and has served as committeeman, Board of Governors and as Vice-President. Antonio also served as an Officer of The Bronx Westchester Electricians Fund, and is a member of The Electrical Workers Minority Caucus.

Antonio lives in Plainview, N.Y. Antonio enjoys traveling, reading books, scuba diving, motorcycling and working on small projects in and around his home. He is the proud farther of three sons, Steven Antonio who is presently working in the “DBM” Division of Local #3, Michael Raul who is attending F.I.T. and Alexander Cesar who is in High School.
