Christopher Erikson

Christopher Erikson was born in Flushing, New York on August 24, 1955. He worked in various Divisions of Local #3, prior to being accepted into the Electricians Apprentice Program in 1975. Chris attended the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies and earned an Associate and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Labor – Management Relations. Christopher worked as a Journeyman and Foreman during the 1980‟s on several large projects, including Battery Park City, Pier 17, and the Javits Convention Center and served on the 1983 “A” Contract Negotiating Committee.

In 1984, he was appointed by the late Harry Van Arsdale to the staff of the Electrical Union World, Local #3 Loan Fund, and as a Delegate to the N.Y.C. Central Labor Council. In March of 1989, Mr. Erikson was appointed as “DBM” Business Representative by Business Manager, Thomas Van Arsdale. Building Maintenance Division represents over 1,400 members covered by 53 collective bargaining agreements including New York‟s newspapers. He led Local # 3 members through the successful Daily News strike in 1990. In 1991, he was assigned to represent over 1,600 members of the Elevator Division. While representing the Elevator Division, difficult negotiations resulted in several strikes, the longest lasting 123 days.

On July 13, 2000, he succeeded James O‟Hara as Assistant Business Manager of Local 3‟s Maintenance Department. He also was responsible for Local #3 members employed at the Javits Convention Center and successfully negotiated the 2001 agreement with the Javits Convention Center that provided Local #3 members over 8 million dollars in back wages and benefits retroactive to 1998. He re-established the Exhibition Wiring Course in 2003 and improved relations with the Convention Center, ultimately providing millions of man-hour opportunities for Local #3 members. Chris had represented the Electricians, Event Operators, and Utility Workers at Madison Square Garden and oversaw the electrical installations of the Democratic National Convention in 1992 and the Republican National Convention in 2004. He has successfully negotiated over 150 collective bargaining agreements. Chris serves on the I.B.E.W. System Council EM5 Board that represents members employed by General Electric across the United States.

Christopher serves as an Employee Representative on all of the 14 Jointly Trusteed, Local #3 benefit plans. He serves on the Executive Board of the N.Y.C. Building and Construction Trades Council of N.Y.C. He is a Delegate to the N.Y. Hotel Trades Council, Chairman of the M.S.G. Labor Committee, President of the NY State Allied Printing Trades Council and a Director of the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Memorial Association. Chris serves as an Advisor to the Chinese American Cultural Society of Local #3. He is a member of the Catholic Council and is also a member of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, the E.W. M.C., the NAACP. He has been honored by many union and political organizations including the State of Israel Bonds, the NAACP, and is a recent recipient of the 2008 Ellis Island Medal of Honor award.
On October 10, 2006, Christopher Erikson was elected by the Executive Board to fill the position of Business Manager until May, 2008. He and the entire Local #3 slate of officers ran unopposed and on May 8, 2008, Mr. Erikson and his team were elected for a three-year term.

Christopher Erikson resides on Long Island with his wife Denise. They have four sons; Christopher Jr., Robert, Nicholas, and Thomas.
