Robert Martin

 

Robert Martin was born and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. His parents, Robert, a Local #3 member and Geraldine and sisiter moved from Brooklyn to Electchester in 1987. Robert attended and graduated from St Francis Prep High School in 1997. Robert was initiated into Local Union # 3 in 2001, starting his career as a cable technician in the ET division of Local 3, He then applied to and was accepted into the “A”- Apprenticeship program in 2002. During his apprenticeship Robert was an active member of the A Apprentice Advisory Committee, serving as class rep chair, blood drive chair, and as a board of director.

Robert received his associates degree, in 2007, from the Harry Van Arsdale Jr College of Labor Studies and in January of 2008, upon completing his apprenticeship, Robert achieved the status of  “A”- Journeyman. Always wanting to better himself and the industry Robert has completed several courses offered by the Cultural and Educational Department of the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry and is certified in the following: Citizenship Responsibilities, Rigging, Commercial Driving License Class A, 10 hour OSHA safety class, Supervision Training, Breakthrough Leadership training Institute, Lock Out/Tag Out, Advanced Solid State Traffic Controller, International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone Safety, IMSA Traffic Tech 1, IMSA Traffic Tech 2, IMSA Roadway Lighting 1 and IMSA Methodology and Education.

Robert is a member of  the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society where he has served as committeeman and is currently serving as Sergeant at Arms, he is also a member of the Bronx Acorn Electrical Club were is serves as a Committeemen. Robert is a member of the Wage and Policy Committee of the “J”- Division, serves on several subcommittees of the International Maintenance and Signal Association and is an  Executive Board member of the “J”- Division.. He is working as a Steward, employed by Welsbach Electrical. In addition he is currently involved in teaching the commercial drivers course and acting as a moderator for all IMSA courses.

Robert is currently residing in Electchester, Queens with his wife Michelle. He enjoys the company of friends and family, traveling, playing and coaching football/baseball and taking road trips on his motorcycle.
